Events & News"It is in pardoning that we are pardoned.”
Wanda Marie Persac Annison passed away peacefully on September 1, two days before her 98th birthday. Born in Baton Rouge, LA to George Hunter Persac and Lena Jumel Persac on September 3, 1926, her French heritage and Louisiana culture were obvious in her daily life. She loved visiting with family and friends; she loved a cup of hot tea, a little glass of wine, and a good seafood gumbo. Wanda was a “people person.” She never met a stranger and found the good in everyone. Her legacy is one of kindness and strength, and she was the glue that held her large family together over the years. Her greatest joy was having her entire family together for the Annison Christmas Party each year. Family members would not miss it. Above all, Wanda lived out her life of faith as a devout Catholic, placing God and family above all else.
In 1944, Wanda married a young serviceman, H.H. Annison, and spent the rest of her life as a loving wife, mother , grandmother, and great-grandmother. After “H” graduated from LSU on the GI Bill, he was employed by the Louisiana Cooperative Extension Service, and the family moved several times in Louisiana, living in Amite, Alexandria, Coushatta, Iota, and Shreveport. In 1965, the family moved to Jackson when “H” became the Executive Director of the Mississippi Coliseum, State Fair, and Dixie National Livestock Show and Rodeo. When the last of her five children began school, Wanda worked in retail sales at The Branding Chute, The Corral, The Rose Tree, and Capitol Men’s Wear. Wanda was an independent woman for 46 years after her husband’s death in 1978. She was a charter member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Madison, MS, serving in numerous ministries over the years.
Wanda was preceded in death by her husband, H. H. Annison; parents, George and Lena Persac; brother, Hunter Persac; and son Steven Wayne Annison.
